Dr. Zach Murphree is VELO3D's VP of Technical Partnerships. His background includes engineering roles for energy companies, where he was in charge of introducing metal additive manufacturing technology to a Fortune 500 energy company. He earned Bachelor of Science and PhD degrees in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas and has been granted more than 35 patents.

The second week of September brings the world’s biggest names in manufacturing to Chicago, as the biennial International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) and the co-located Additive Manufacturing Conference (AMC) come to McCormick Place. VELO3D will be showcasing our end-to-end 3D printing solutions at IMTS North Hall booth #237286 and AMC booth #28.

Visitors can see how our solutions solve manufacturing challenges.

The VELO3D solution includes:

  • The Sapphire® system, designed from the ground up for high-volume manufacturing
  • Flow print preparation software, built to reduce complexity and ease automation for right-the-first-time build files via Object Pre-print Correction (OPC)
  • Intelligent Fusion technology, powering the VELO3D platform with closed-loop control

In addition to the system, VELO3D will have several parts printed on our Sapphire system available to show material and design quality. All of these parts were previously considered impossible to either 3D print or manufacture conventionally in one piece and are now proof points for our production manufacturing solution.

Showcasing our viability even more directly, the Sapphire system will be 3D printing on the floor throughout IMTS.

The build is designed for a five-day print time taking advantage of the Sapphire’s large (ø315mm, z-axis 400mm) build envelope, giving visitors the unique opportunity to see progress layer by layer in real time through the system’s windows. The complex design chosen takes advantage of VELO3D's physics-driven innovation to minimize the need for support structures while building delicate features such as overhangs.

Follow the VELO3D Sapphire system printing progress and visit our booth.

Schedule a private meeting with us by emailing IMTS@velo3d.com or stop by our booths for a for a first-hand look at the most advanced metal additive manufacturing solution on the market.
